Briedern is a municipality on the Moselle in the Cochem-Zell district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Cochem community .
geography
Briedern is located on the Moselle above the barrage in Bruttig-Fankel between Cochem and Zell in the middle of the Cochemer Krampen. The most famous vineyard in the area ("Rüberberger Domherrenberg") is on the steep slopes on the opposite side of the Moselle.
history
The place was first mentioned in a document in 1275. The Servatius Church, built at the same time, was the destination of pilgrimages, like the Servatius Fountain; from the years 1466, 1493 and 1499 the issuing of indulgences for pilgrims is known.
At the parish festival in 1595, Briedern was attacked by Anton Langhaar, who was up to mischief from Kastellaun in the Hunsrück. Anton Langhaar was a captain under the Baden Margrave Eduard Fortunat and came from Monschau . However, the Briedern were able to defend themselves bravely.
Until 1780 Briedern belonged to the Strimmiger Court , which was part of the tri-lordly territory on the Hunsrück and was most recently under the joint rule of Kurtrier , the Duke of Pfalz-Zweibrücken as Count of the Rear Count of Sponheim and Count of Metternich-Winneburg . When the condominium was divided, the Strimmiger court and with it the village of Briedern were awarded to Count von Metternich-Winneburg.
After the Left Bank of the Rhine was taken by French revolutionary troops (1794), the place belonged to the canton of Zell in the Rhine-Moselle department from 1798 to 1814 . The region was assigned to the Kingdom of Prussia at the Congress of Vienna in 1815. Under the Prussian administration, Briedern belonged to the newly established Zell district from 1816 and was administered by the Senheim mayor . Parts of the village were destroyed by artillery fire in 1945. Since 1946 it has been part of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate.
