history

After the councils of both municipalities had agreed to a "voluntary merger" on October 23, 2008, the previously free city of Cochem was incorporated into the Cochem-Land association as a municipality now part of the association. To this end, the state government passed a corresponding law on February 18, 2009, in which u. a. the transfer of assets from the city to the Verbandsgemeinde were regulated. The Verbandsgemeinde was also named Verbandsgemeinde Cochem .

At the time of incorporation, the Cochem-Land community consisted of 16 local communities with a total of 10,518 inhabitants, the city of Cochem had 5,238 inhabitants.

In a further step, the local communities Lieg , Lütz , Moselkern , Müden (Mosel) , Pomerania and Treis-Karden were incorporated into the community of Cochem by state law of November 22, 2013 on July 1, 2014 from the Treis-Karden association, which was dissolved at the same time .

Association municipal council

The Cochem municipal council consists of 32 honorary council members who were elected in a personalized proportional representation in the local elections on May 26, 2019 , and the full-time mayor as chairman.

Wolfgang Lambertz (CDU) has been the mayor of the Cochem community since March 1, 2018. In the runoff election on October 15, 2017, he prevailed with a share of 68.2% of the vote, after none of the original five applicants achieved a sufficient majority in the direct election on September 24, 2017. Lambertz is the successor to Helmut Probst (CDU).
