Vignerons indépendants de France
The Vignerons indépendants de France (VIF) (German: Independent Winemakers France ) is a wine-growing trade organization based in Paris , which represents small, independent winemakers in France and acts as their promotional body. It was founded in 1978 as the confédération nationale des caves particulières (CNCP) . In 2003 the charter and name were changed to serve as a rallying point for the independent winemakers against the powerful winemakers' cooperatives . The number of members is between 6,000 and 10,000 winemakers from all over France, depending on the source.
Charter
The VIF philosophy can be condensed into the following key points for the winemaker. they should
- treat their terroir responsibly,
- cultivate your own vineyard and read wine yourself,
- make the wine yourself,
- bottle the wine yourself,
- maintain and preserve the winemaking traditions.
Salon des Vins
Every year the VIF organizes several wine fairs ( Salon des vins ) in different cities of France ( Reims , Paris , Bordeaux , Lyon , Strasbourg , Lille , Rennes ). With free tasting and sales, this fair is also aimed directly at end customers and not just the specialist audience.
