Sehl is one of four districts of the district town of Cochem in the Rhineland-Palatinate district of Cochem-Zell . Until 1932 Sehl was an independent municipality.

The place on the left bank of the Moselle is in the immediate vicinity of the Moselle . The center of Cochem follows in a north-westerly direction. The next place, about three kilometers away, is Ernst . Cochem's Cond district is on the opposite side of the Moselle from Sehl .

The Ebernach monastery is separated from Sehl in an easterly direction by the B 259 .

Economy and tourism

Sehl's economy is shaped by tourism and viticulture. In recent years, various shopping centers have settled on federal highway 49 , which runs through the town and separates it from the banks of the Moselle . A planned new building area should give the place additional economic upturn.

Sehl owns one of the oldest half-timbered houses in the entire Moselle region. During restoration work in 1999, the house was discovered with intact half-timbering from 1374/1375. While the basement was built from the Moselle slate typical of the region, it is followed by the half-timbering that has been preserved in its original state. Only the roof construction is more recent.

The Sankt Antonius Chapel in Sehl is also called the Sehler Cathedral . The late Gothic choir of the church was built according to a donation document from Archbishop Johann II of Baden from 1493 as a branch church of the parish of Cochem. The bell in the tower dates from 1441 with the inscription AVE MARIA GRACIA PLENA DOMINUS TECUM MCCCCXXXXI.

The actual nave dates from the 18th century and was last renovated in 2001.
