Lukas Sehl

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Lukas Sehl (Seel) (* around 1515 in Sehl ; † May 24, 1586 in Trier ) was a German abbot in the St. Marien monastery in Trier.

Life

Lukas Sehl, whose last name suggests his origins in Cochem- Sehl, was referred to as the former prior of the Maria Laach Abbey in April 1575 , while the Laacher Nekrolog only mentioned him as a former conventual . Since the term of office of his successor Matthias von Cochem (1508–1597) from before 1561 to 1574 seems to be certain, the beginning of the priory of Sehl in Laach is assumed to be after 1553. Before April 1565 he was sent to the St. Marien monastery in Trier, where in April 1575 he was the confessor of the Benedictine nuns at Oeren ( St. Irminen ). When he was appointed the new abbot of St. Johann im Rheingau by the abbots of the general chapter , this led to rejection by the Archbishop of Mainz , Daniel von Homburg , with whom the congregation was in dispute about the occupation of this abbot chair. Due to the rejection, Sehl was sent back to the St. Marien monastery, where he was finally elected abbot on May 2, 1581, and remained so until his death in 1586.
