The Lützbach is a 12 km long right tributary of the Moselle in Rhineland-Palatinate .
geography
It rises at a height of about 300 m in the Hunsrück and flows completely through a lonely valley. Only in the lower reaches does a street run parallel to the stream. At Treis-Karden it flows into the Moselle. Some mills that are still inhabited are in the valley.
Flora and fauna
Upper and lower reaches flow through extensively used valley meadows. Willows and alders are mainly found on the bank , which are hardly used economically today. In the middle area above the village of Lütz , the valley becomes very narrow, slopes wooded with oak and hornbeam border directly on the stream. Gray herons and mallards are the most common water birds in the Bachtal.
tourism
The community of Lütz is the central starting point for tourist activities in the valley. A hiking and cycling path runs parallel to the stream through the valley. A newly created slate mine path near Lütz provides knowledge about the slate mining that was formerly operated in the Lützbachtal. Until 1953, slate was mined in what were formerly eleven pits with 19 tunnels and 5 test tunnels. The slate heaps today offer rare animal and plant species a unique biotope .
