history

Lindenschied, which was then subordinate to the Rhaunen High Court , was first mentioned in 1345. The document establishes the legal status of Lindenschied and other localities, which were disputed with regard to their borders and rights between the wild counts of Kyrburg , who belonged to Lindenschied, and the Sponheimers . The dispute was settled in 1354 by the Archbishop of Mainz, Gerlach von Nassau . With the occupation of the left bank of the Rhine by French revolutionary troops in 1794 , the place became French. In 1815 he was assigned to the Kingdom of Prussia at the Congress of Vienna . Since 1946 the place has been part of the then newly formed state of Rhineland-Palatinate. Until 1969 Lindenschied belonged to the district of Bernkastel .

coat of arms

Lindenschied coat of arms
Blazon : “Split; on the right in blue over a slanted silver hammer and mallet a floating silver linden leaf, on the left in gold a blue armored and tongued red lion. "
Reasons for the coat of arms: The linden leaf indicates the place name Lindenschied. The hammer and mallet are reminiscent of the slate mining that used to be carried out. The rear part of the shield refers to the former affiliation to the Wildgrafschaft , Hochgericht Rhaunen.

religion

Evangelical Church: entrance area
Evangelical Church: interior

The current Protestant church was used simultaneously by the Protestant and Catholic churches from 1689 to 1907 . After the church was in a very bad condition, the Protestant population renewed the roof and parts of the masonry largely on their own between 1951 and 1953. The roof turret above the choir has been replaced by a newly built tower on the west side; its wrought iron cross was on the steeple until a storm in 2005 and was replaced by a copper cock in 2006. Between 1958 and 1963 the masonry was secured and the nave was completely renovated; a parish hall was also added.

Until the end of 1975, Lindenschied was part of the Evangelical Church Community of Hausen , which belongs to the Trier parish , and since then the 113 Evangelicals have belonged to the Dickenschied Evangelical Church in the Simmern-Trarbach parish .

The Catholic Herz-Jesu Chapel was built in 1908/1909. The approximately 70 Catholics in Lindenschied belong to the Dickenschied parish.

The two Jewish families Mayer and Schloß emigrated to the USA as early as the 1860s. They belonged to the synagogue community of Laufersweiler. Lindenschied's Jewish cemetery was leveled after the Second World War .

economy

There used to be extensive slate mining in Lindenschied, most recently until the middle of the last century in a valley in the south of the village. Today there are craft businesses and agriculture.
