Niedersohren is a municipality in the Rhein-Hunsrück district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Kirchberg (Hunsrück) community .

geography

The rural community of Niedersohren is located in the valley of the Sohrbach in the middle of the Hunsrück . The district covers 3.90 km², of which 0.89 km² is forest. The Niedersohrener Hof also belongs to Niedersohren.

The B 50 runs north of the village , and the historic Ausoniusstrasse runs south . Frankfurt-Hahn Airport is four kilometers north-west of Niedersohren . Niedersohren is about four kilometers southwest of the geographic center of Rhineland-Palatinate. The big cities of Mainz , Koblenz and Trier are almost equally far away.

history

Roman settlement on Ausoniusstrasse and in the vicinity of today's Annahof has been proven. In 1301 the place with the Reichsgut Sohren Eberhard von Sponheim was assigned by the Reich to fief and has belonged to the County of Sponheim ever since . In the 18th century, the Margrave of Baden was the heir to the Counts of Sponheim. With the occupation of the left bank of the Rhine in 1794 by French revolutionary troops , the place became French, in 1815 it was assigned to the Kingdom of Prussia at the Congress of Vienna . After the First World War temporarily occupied by the French, the place has been part of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate since 1946.

Foundation of the coat of arms: Niedersohren in the care Sohren was a royal property, that is what the imperial eagle stands for . 1301 it came as a fief to the Counts of Sponheim and then to their heirs, the Margrave of Baden and the Count of Veldenz . After the division of 1707, the margraves of Baden were the sole rulers, as indicated by the red sloping bar in gold.

The two vessels from the Hunsrück-Eifel culture were recovered from barrows in the community forest.

Culture and sights

theatre

Since 2004, the only youth theater group in the Kirchberg community has existed with the “Pina Coladas”. In 2010 the play “Doctor Deiwel - What can I do for you?” Will be shown.

Buildings

In the center of the village is the Alte Backes , where the volunteer fire brigade is housed . The new parish hall is a new building to the right of the Backes.

About two kilometers from the center of the village, between Niedersohren and Dill, there is a massive replica of a watchtower from Roman times and a refuge with “Roman games”. From the Römerturm you have a good view of the Idarkopf and Frankfurt-Hahn Airport .

Ausoniusstrasse

The Ausoniusstraße runs past the tower and hut, laid out by the Romans and actively used in antiquity. The Ausoniusweg stretches from Bingen am Rhein to Trier . The Ausonius hiking trail is signposted with a white “AU” on a green background in the Kirchberg community area. The “AU” shares parts of the route with the Sponheimer Weg signposted with an “S” .

Sports

The sports club Niedersohren has existed since 1921. The sports field is located directly on Kreisstraße 2 to Sohren . The sports field also has a football field for young people.

There is a syndicate with the clubs TUS Sohren and TUS Büchenbeuren.
