Alterkülz is a municipality in the Rhein-Hunsrück district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the community of Kastellaun .
geography
The place Alterkülz is located in the Külzbachtal , it stretches as a street village remarkably long on the state road L 108, which leads through the place as the "main street". For this, Alterkülz was also given the nickname "Longest Village in the Hunsrück". The settlement Osterkülzmühle, located southeast in the Osterkülztal , and the Wehr district belong to the village.

history
Alterkülz belonged to the Vorderen Grafschaft Sponheim until 1417 . After this Sponheimer line became extinct, the place came with Kastellaun to the Hintere Grafschaft. Within the county of Sponheim the place belonged to the Hasselbacher care in the office Kastellaun . Over the centuries, Alterkülz has grown together from several places (Unterdorf, Mitteldorf, Überbach and Wehr). In 1865, the district of Wehr was mentioned as a separate hamlet.
Behind the southern exit of the village, near the Külzbach , you will find the remains of a medieval iron smelter (Schmelz) and the remains of the Eid mine, as well as a hill, cut through by the country road, on which a Roman estate ( Villa rustica ) stood.
From 1901 to 1983 the place was a train station on the Hunsrückbahn Simmern - Kastellaun - Boppard. At the beginning of the 21st century, the former railway line was converted into an asphalt cycle and hiking path, the Schinderhannes cycle path .
In 2005, the Hunsrück community achieved fifth place in the regional decision of the state competition “ Our village has a future ”.

Municipal council
The local council in Alterkülz consists of eight council members, who were elected by a majority vote in the local elections on May 26, 2019 , and the honorary local mayor as chairman.

Local mayor is Alfons Rockenbach. No candidate ran in the local elections on May 26, 2019; he was elected by the local council on July 2, 2019 and is thus the successor to Klaus Häfner.
Business
Businesses are u. a. a large steel construction company, two carpenters, a stonemasonry, a restaurant and several farms. On a hill east of the town on the districts of Alterkulz and Spesenroth, the wind farm is located Alterkuelz seven wind turbines of manufacturer Vestas and Enercon E-82 .
