The in Hunsrück located Schinderhannes trail is 38 km long and runs as Greenway on the former Hunsrückbahn of simmering over Kastellaun to Emmelshausen . The path is named after the German robber Johannes Bückler , also known as Schinderhannes , whose raids mainly took place in the Hunsrück.
The cycle path was completed in 1999 and opened for cyclists, skaters and walkers. It is completely paved and runs largely flat across the Hunsrück north of Simmern towards the heights of the Rhine around Emmelshausen. The cycle path is signposted in both directions . Its black and white logo shows the eponymous Schinderhannes armed with a pistol . A total of 174 meters of ascent and 289 meters of descent can be expected between the start and finish point .
Route
The cycle path starts in Emmelshausen . From there it winds in loops via Leiningen , Norath and Pfalzfeld towards the south. Past Lingerhahn and the Dudenrother Schanze it goes to Ebschied . The cycle path crosses the Gödenrother forest to Hollnich , then the Kastellauner forest, before reaching Kastellaun with the castle ruins of the same name . Passing Hasselbach via Alterkülz and Neuerkirch you get to Külz . Between Külz and Keidelheim the Schinderhannes cycle path crosses the 50th latitude . Apart from the approximately 1.5 km long ascent behind Kastellaun, the path to Simmern continuously falls slightly down the valley. On his last stretch he follows the runs from Külzbach and Simmerbach to Simmern.
