Sauerbrunnen is a village in the Hunsrück and since the Rhineland-Palatinate functional and territorial reform at the end of the 1960s, a district of the local community of Leiningen in the Rhein-Hunsrück district . geography
Sauerbrunnen is located in a side valley of the Baybach in the Hunsrück.
history
The history of the place goes back to the eponymous source of the Sauerbrunnen, which is mentioned for the first time in 1565. In 1780 this source was taken out of gratitude by Countess Marianne von der Leyen . Around 1786 Sauerbrunnen was a health spa and the water was sold outside the country. From 1789 the fountain fell into disrepair . In 1898 a well house was built, which was renovated in 1910. On June 11, 1910, the Thauma source was officially recognized as the 'Lamscheider Steel Fountain'.
When driving along the main road from Emmelshausen to Lamscheid, the stately historic fountain house can be seen.
