The place dates back to antiquity; excavations revealed a settlement from around 500 BC. Found.

The place was mentioned for the first time in 1006 in a document in which the Archbishop of Mainz Willigis consecrated the church to "Mergesbach". To the south of Mörschbach, on the so-called "Nonnenberg" are the remains of a medieval fortification ( Motte ). This was possibly the seat of the Thidrichs named in the document of 1006 or of the noble noble family of those von Walebach , who named themselves after the neighboring village Wahlbach .

With the occupation of the Left Bank of the Rhine in 1794 by French revolutionary troops , the place became French, in 1815 it was assigned to the Kingdom of Prussia at the Congress of Vienna .
