Steve Roach (* 16th February 1955 in La Mesa , California ) is an American Ambient - musicians .

Life

Steve Roach was originally a professional motorcycle racer . At the age of 20, inspired by the music of Tangerine Dream , Klaus Schulze and Vangelis , he taught himself to play the synthesizer . His debut album Now was released in 1982.

Roach's music is strongly influenced by the beauty and diversity of the landscapes that can be found especially in the south of the USA. For Roach, music is a central medium to process his associations with nature. Stylistic features of his sound art are not infrequently the use of the surface sounds customary in the genre by different synthesizers, the use of drums and the didgeridoo , which leads to sound worlds that are sometimes shamanic .
