The municipality of Simmern-Rheinböllen , based in the district town of Simmern / Hunsrück in the Rhein-Hunsrück district in Rhineland-Palatinate , was created on January 1, 2020 from the merger of the municipalities of Rheinböllen and Simmern . There is another administrative office in the city of Rheinböllen .

On September 28, 2010 the state government passed the “First Law on Local and Administrative Reform” with the aim of improving the efficiency, competitiveness and administrative power of local structures. For municipalities it was determined that they should include at least 12,000 inhabitants (main residence on June 30, 2009). The municipality of Rheinböllen fell below this value.

Association municipal council
The local council Simmern-Rheinböllen consists of 36 elected honorary council members, who in the local elections on May 26, 2019 in a personalized proportional representation were elected, and the full-time mayor as chairman.

mayor
Michael Boos (SPD), former mayor of the Simmern municipality, became the first full-time mayor of the Simmern-Rheinböllen municipality on January 1, 2020. In the direct election on May 26, 2019, he was elected with 58.25% of the vote. Up until the merger, Arno Imig (CDU) was the mayor of the Rheinböllen community. For reasons of age, he did not run for any further term.

| Reasons for the coat of arms: The coat of arms shows the Palatinate lion ; Almost all the communities in the Verbandsgemeinde, with the exception of Liebshausen , used to belong to the rulership of the Principality of Pfalz-Simmern ; the diamonds stand for the Wittelsbach family . The alchemical symbol for iron refers to iron extraction and processing in the Rheinböllener area. The shield border as such marks the coat of arms as that of an office . |
