The municipality Hunsrück Middle Rhine was 1 January 2020 from the voluntary merger of Rhineland-Palatinate Verbandsgemeinden Emmelshausen and St. Goar-Oberwesel in the Rhein-Hunsrück district . The administrative seat is the city of Emmelshausen , another administrative seat is in the city of Oberwesel . A total of 33 local communities belong to the new community , including the three cities of Emmelshausen, Oberwesel and St. Goar .

The area of the Verbandsgemeinde is located in the northeastern Hunsrück and on the western Middle Rhine .

Association municipal council
The Verbandsgemeinderat Hunsrück-Mittelrhein consists of 36 voluntary council members who were elected in a personalized proportional representation in the local elections on May 26, 2019 , and the full-time mayor as chairman.

mayor
Peter Unkel (independent), previously mayor of the Emmelshausen community, became the first full-time mayor of the new Hunsrück-Mittelrhein community on January 1, 2020. In the direct election on May 26, 2019, he was elected for this office with 89.54% of the votes.
