Boos from Waldeck
Boos von Waldeck is an old Rhenish ministerial family from the Ganerbeburg Waldeck in what is now the Rhein-Hunsrück district .
history
The first documented mention of the family began with Bosso von Waldeck , who on March 25, 1243, together with the knights Heribert, Udo and Winand von Waldeck, gave their castle Waldeck in the Hunsrück to the Archbishop of Cologne, Konrad von Hochstaden, for 200 marks as a fiefdom for Cologne denarii .
The Boos von Waldeck family was one of three families who named themselves after Waldeck Castle and lived there as Ganerbe. The other two families were the so-called Winand and Rudolf lines, named after the family's "leading name". The Winand line died out around 1400, the Rudolf line already around 1370. The Boos von Waldeck were each able to take part of the property of the extinct family. Members of all three lines were involved in the Eltz feud against Archbishop Baldwin of Luxembourg in 1331 . Despite this conflict, the family maintained good relationships with the surrounding noble families. Members of the Boos von Waldeck appear as feudal bearers and bailiffs in the service of the Palatinate , Kurtrier and the Counts of Sponheim . Through the marriage of Johann IV. To Else von Montfort, the castle and dominion of Montfort an der Nahe came into the possession of the family, who have called themselves Boos von Waldeck and Montfort since then (15th century). Since 1420, many families can be found in villages around Waldeck Castle who belonged to the Boos von Waldeck as a fiefdom of Echternach Abbey - the so-called "Willibrord children".
