Sepp Schönmetzler (born September 24, 1944 in Etzdorf , Döbeln district , Saxony ) is a former German figure skater , trainer and journalist .

Sports

Schönmetzler started figure skating at the age of four. He started for SC Rießersee and was trained by his father, the qualified gymnastics and sports teacher Josef Schönmetzler. It was in 1962 and 1965 German figure skating champion of the men . From 1961 to 1965 he took part in European championships . He never finished it worse than eight. His best placement was fourth at his last European Championship in 1965 . He took part in world championships from 1962 to 1965 , where his best result was seventh place in 1963 . At his only Olympic Games in 1964, Schönmetzler came twelfth when his compatriot Manfred Schnelldorfer won . After his amateur career ended in 1965, he turned professional and went to Eisrevue-Ice Capades for two years.

In 1963, Sepp Schönmetzler graduated from high school in Oberstdorf. In 1965 he became an honorary citizen of Colorado Springs , Colorado , USA . From 1967 he studied at the State Higher Technical School for Photography in Cologne, specializing in "Technical and Scientific Photography" and graduated in 1970 as a Dipl.-Ing. for technical-scientific photography.

Since 1967 he also worked for two years as a figure skating coach at the Cologne Ice Club. In 1970 Sepp Schönmetzler also became a specialist instructor for figure skating.

In 1972 he began to work as a photo journalist for the BILD newspaper for three years , three months in Cologne and then in Hamburg . In 1972 he also volunteered at the Summer Olympics in Munich. He participated in the production of the village newspaper. In 1976 he studied sports science at the German Sport University Cologne (DSHS). Sepp Schönmetzler has been working as a freelance journalist and sports organizer since 1992 . He founds the " Verlag für Sportfachinformation" and publishes the ice sports magazine. In 2009 the ice sports magazine was stopped. Since then it has only been available as an internet homepage.
