Victor Ladislaus Clemens Franz Johann Graf von Boos zu Waldeck and Montfort (born February 23, 1840 in Prague , † July 6, 1916 in Wosseletz ) was a Bohemian politician, landowner, composer, translator and patron .

family

The son of Count Franz Anton Joseph von Boos zu Waldeck and Montfort (1802-1887), kk chamberlain, owner of the dominions Wosseletz (Czech Oselce) in the Piseker district and Alt-Smoliwec in the same district and Therese, née Györy de Radvany (1810 –1873) came from the old Rhenish noble family Boos zu Waldeck , who was raised to the rank of imperial count in 1790, and grew up with his two sisters Helene and Maria in Prague .

Boos-Waldeck married on August 3, 1869 in Prague Elvira Freiin Malowetz von Malowitz and Kosoř (born January 25, 1850 in Waldheim , † January 18, 1931 in Wosseletz), with whom he lived at his father's castle Wosseletz , where the five common children Victor (1871–1973), Reinhold (1876–1951), Maria (* 1882), Ernestine (1883–1947) and Elvira (1885–1984) were born.

He was the nephew of Joseph Graf von Boos zu Waldeck and Montfort (1798–1880), ducal-Nassau lieutenant colonel and co-founder of the “ Mainz Adelsverein ” to look after emigrants to the USA.

Life

After the death of his father, Victor inherited Wosseletz Castle, which he made the center of his life. In the same year he sold the goods in Smolivec, including the Starý Smolivec Castle, to Count Karl von Lilgenau in Schliisselburg and became the owner of the Lazan-Desfour estate in the Pisek region. He was kk chamberlain and knight of honor of the Teutonic Knight Order, from 1881 to 1887 member of the state parliament and from 1885 to 1891 member of the Reichsrat. He founded the German National Association in Pilsen .

As a patron of the arts, Boos-Waldeck promoted young artists and composed himself. One of his best-known works is an intonation of the poem Morning I get up and ask by Heinrich Heine . In the 1890s, Wosseletz Castle became a meeting place for artists and composers. Guests of the count were u. a. Jaroslav Vrchlický , Josef Václav Sládek , Josef Svatopluk Machar , Václav Tallich, Oskar Nedbal , Josef Suk and Adolf Hofmeister . In 1899 his German translation of Jaroslav Vrchlický's epic “ Bar-Kochba ” appeared, which he dedicated to Bertha von Suttner .
