According to ancient traditions, Libčeves is said to have been settled as early as 1200, but this cannot be documented. This information is confirmed by the age of the Church of John the Baptist, for whose nave and tower a construction time between 1220 and 1230 is considered certain. Lubschenecz was first mentioned in a document in 1251 when Protivec von Libčeves was named as the owner of a country house. For 200 years the place belonged to the Vřesovice of Vřesovice and then to the Žirotín. In the middle of the 15th century, the Lobkowicz family inherited Libčeves and remained the owners of the place for 400 years.

Until the 17th century, Libčeves belonged to the Czech settlement area. During and after the Thirty Years' War, an increased influx of Germans began in the heavily depopulated place. At the time the Berní rula was drawn up , both ethnic groups were half resident. From 1656 the name Liebshausen came into use, in 1664 the Germans made up 2/3 of the population and from 1742 the sermons in the church were held exclusively in German. Since the 18th century Libčeves was the seat of an estate administration for large estates. After the abolition of serfdom in 1781, glass factories, schnapps distilleries and the stately palace gardening were built in the rule. Two brick factories were built in Sinutz.

In 1820 a kk post station was built, where the municipal office is located today. By order of the emperor, from 1821 the required horses were bred in Schelkowitz . In 1830 376 horses, 2,600 cattle and 7,500 sheep were kept on the manorial estates. The large estate also included the 18.4 hectare pheasantry at Hrádecký potok southwest of the village with a hunting lodge, as well as the manorial house and a toll house. 139 craftsmen and tradespeople lived in Liebshausen, but also 62 poor people. In 1898, Brüxer Aktiengesellschaft began building the local railway from Tschischkowitz to Obernitz , with which Liebshausen also got a rail connection. The villages of Charwatz, Noynitz, Lahowitz, Schelkowitz, Schiedowitz and Leskay were parish of the parish church of John the Baptist.

In the 1920s, land reforms cut the large Lobkowicz landowners. In 1935, 1,278 people lived in Liebshausen with its district Wschechlab, 885 of whom were Germans. After the Second World War, the Germans were expropriated and driven out. During the land reform of 1947, which stipulated a maximum land ownership of 50 hectares, the large land holdings of Prince Lobkowicz were nationalized.

In 1993 the former districts of Kozly and Želkovice got their independence back.
