The first written mention of the place took place in 1266 as the seat of Vladiken Chotěbor. In 1393 the owner of the fortress, Jaroslav von Opočno , had a vineyard laid out. Between the 14th and 16th centuries the village was divided into three parts. Since the 15th century, the shares belonged to the dominions Postelberg , Bilin and Pravda . In 1582 the Kaplirz de Sulewicz acquired the Lipno estate with the fortress in exchange for Bedřichův Světec . After the Battle of the White Mountain , the possessions of Alexander Kaplirz de Sulewicz were confiscated and sold to Johann von Aldringen in 1623 . After his death, Lipno fell back to the Bohemian Crown and handed over to Johann von Bissingen in 1635 . He had the fortress transformed into a castle. In 1676 Georg von Sinzendorf bought the castle and in 1692 Ferdinand Wilhelm zu Schwarzenberg bought it . During the Seven Years' War several skirmishes between Austrian hussars and Prussian troops took place in the area. In 1811 a village school was established.

In 1832, the Groß Lips estate, which belonged to Joseph II of Schwarzenberg, including the attached Netschenitz estate, comprised the six villages of Groß Lips, Břinkov, Hřiwitz , Horžan, Prashin and Netschenitz with a total of 1174 inhabitants and 226 houses. The seat of the estate administration was the Groß Lips castle. At that time there were 59 houses in Groß Lips, in which 374 people lived.

After the abolition of patrimonial , Gross Lips / Lipno formed a municipality in the Saaz district from 1850 . In 1880 a volunteer fire brigade was founded. In 1910, Gross Lips had the highest population in its history with 710 inhabitants. In 1930 the community of Groß Lips had 697 inhabitants, 64% of whom were Germans.

After the Munich Agreement , the place was added to the German Reich in 1938 and belonged to the Saaz district until 1945 . In 1939 there were 593 people living in the community. After the end of World War II, Lišany came back to Czechoslovakia and the German population was expelled .
