The Džbán (German Krugwald , formerly Zban ) is a mountain range in Central Bohemia in the Czech Republic .

location

The Džbán includes areas in the south of the Okres Louny , in the west of the Okres Kladno and in the north of the Okres Rakovník .

description

The Džbán is a plateau that is cut into several table mountain-like plateaus by wide and deep valleys . It consists of a 3–12 meter thick and firm layer of tarpaulin , under which there are reddish sandstone at a depth of 50–300 m and underneath Devonian and Carboniferous clay layers. Its highest elevation is the Louštín (536.7 m), slightly lower is the eponymous Džbán ( Krug ) at just under 536 m . Other plateaus are the Pšanská plošina, the Dřevíč , the Rovina and the Pravda .

The Džbán forms a watershed between the Ohře and Berounka rivers . The Hasina and Smolnický brooks flow to the Ohře; the Bakovský potok to the Vltava , the Klíčava and the Loděnice to the Berounka.

Grain, hops and forage crops are grown in the fertile area. In Bílichov there is a nature reserve in a population of orchids. The Džbán is part of the Džbán Protected Landscape Area, which also includes the surrounding areas.

history

The Džbán has always been divided between different landlords. Part of the area belonged to Dřevíč Castle , which was of national importance in the early Middle Ages before its rights were transferred to the town of Slaný . The Pravda Castle was without form in the second half of the 16th century. Coal mining began in the 19th century along the kounovsko-slánská sloj ( Kaunowa-Schlaner seam ).
