The Soonwald-Nahe Nature Park is a nature park in the south-east of the Hunsrück and in the central part of the Nahe region . It essentially comprises the large forest areas of the Soonwald and the Lützelsoons as well as the northern banks of the Nahe between Kirn and Bad Kreuznach . The largest elevation is the Ellerspring at 657 m above sea level. The park was established in 2005 and covers an area of ​​736 km².

The nature park has a well-developed tourist infrastructure. The Soonwald to the north offers numerous hiking opportunities, the 84 km Soonwaldsteig , a long-distance hiking trail between Kirn an der Nahe and Bingen am Rhein , was opened on May 9, 2009.

Wind energy

Wind turbines for the Ellern wind farm were built on the eastern Soonwald heights . As a result, several citizens' groups were founded against the establishment of wind farms in the nature park. Two core zones have been identified in the nature park, these remain free of wind turbines.
