The landscape to the left and right of the Nahe river in Rhineland-Palatinate is called Naheland .

geography

The southern foothills of the Hunsrück and the northern North Palatinate Uplands on both sides of the Nahe river are collectively referred to as "Naheland". The Naheland extends about 80 km in a west-east direction from the source of the river in Saarland to its confluence with the Rhine in the locality of Bingen . While the narrow landscape in the west is characterized by forests and agriculture, the wide eastern section is dominated by viticulture in the Nahe wine-growing region .

The Naheland lies in the two districts of Birkenfeld and Bad Kreuznach .

Culture

The Naheland is characterized by a rich musical culture. There is an above-average number of choirs , wind bands , big bands and other music groups. Numerous professional musicians come from this region or have worked here.

The main traffic axis of the region runs parallel to the Nahe river. The federal road 41 and the non-electrified rail connection of the Nahe Valley Railway are of national importance.

The term "Naheland" (formerly: "Nahegau") is increasingly used today to market the region for tourism; the "Naheland-Touristik" has its seat in Kirn . Ten so-called vital tours are available for hikers as circular hiking trails .
