Dieter Wellmann (born January 28, 1933 in Berlin ) is a German church musician and composer .

Live and act

He studied at the church music school in Halle (Saale) , where he passed the A-exam in 1957 . Major teachers were Gerhard Bremsteller (organ), Heinz Wunderlich ( liturgical organ playing ), Eberhard Wenzel (choir direction and composition). Further organ studies led him to Marie-Claire Alain , Louis Toebosch and Helmuth Rilling (Summer Academy Haarlem / Bach Academy Stuttgart). He initially worked as a part-time church musician in Landsberg-Gollma and as a substitute in the student community in Halle. From 1958 to 1960 he was cantor in Siegen-Weidenau . From 1960 to 1996 he worked as a church musician at the Pauluskirche in Bad Kreuznach , and since 1963 also as district cantor at Nahe and Glan. In 1978 he was appointed church music director . His group of students included Helmut Freitag , Helmut Langenbruch , Gerd-Peter Münden and Udo Schneberger , Hendrik Ritter, Silke Hamburger, Oliver Vogt, Gerd Weimar and others. His compositional work was mainly inspired by his own practice.

With courses for the next generation of church music, with the leadership of children's and senior singing weeks and in the examination board of the church music school in Düsseldorf, he also worked at the level of the Ev. Church in the Rhineland with.

Wellmann is married to the church musician and recorder player Eva-Marie Wellmann, for whose recorder ensemble Fluturas as well as for their Orff instrumental group and common children's choir practice he composed some works. As a retired man he lives in Stromberg .

Trivia

In his retirement, Wellmann reactivated an old hobbyhorse from childhood: the construction of structures from anchor stones . In cooperation with the manufacturer, he designed a replica of the Brandenburg Gate , which was exhibited in the Berlin Department Store of the West .
