Dieter Wellmann (fencer)

Dieter Wellmann (born December 7, 1942 in Sächsisch-Regen , Transylvania ) is a former German fencer who took part in the Olympic Games with both a foil and a saber .

Dieter Wellmann, who fights for OFC Bonn , took second place behind Walter Köstner with the saber at the German fencing championships in 1964 . At the Olympic Games in Tokyo in 1964 , only fencers from the Federal Republic started in the joint German team . In the foil fencing team competition, the team with Dieter Wellmann, Jürgen Brecht , Eberhard Mehl , Tim Gerresheim and Jürgen Theuerkauff took fifth place. After Wellmann had finished eighth in the saber singles, the saber team with Wellmann, Theuerkauff, Köstner, Klaus Allisat and Percy Borucki reached sixth place.

In 1965 and 1967 Wellmann was third in the German championships with the saber. The saber team of OFC Bonn won the title from 1964 to 1971. At the Olympic Games in 1968 Wellmann started with the foil. After he was eliminated in the individual in the second round, the foil team with Friedrich Wessel , Wellmann, Brecht, Theuerkauff and Gerresheim reached sixth place.

At the German Championships in 1972 Wellmann won his only individual title with the foil. At the 1972 Olympic Games , the German foil team came in fifth with Erk Sens-Gorius , Harald Hein , Klaus Reichert , Friedrich Wessel and Dieter Wellmann. The saber team with Knut Höhne , Paul Wischeidt , Walter Convents , Volker Duschner and Wellmann lost in the quarter-finals to the Soviet Union and finished in seventh place.
