Eberhard Mehl
Eberhard Mehl (born April 20, 1935 in Cologne , † March 29, 2002 in Koblenz ) was a German fencer who won an Olympic bronze medal with the foil .
Mehl began fencing at OFC Bonn in 1949 , and in 1956 Mehl won the German team championship with the Bonn team. He then moved to REI Koblenz . At the Olympic Games in Rome in 1960 Mehl reached the round of 12 in the individual competition. Together with Jürgen Brecht , Tim Gerresheim and Jürgen Theuerkauff , Mehl won the bronze medal in the team competition against the Hungarians, with Mehl having two wins and one defeat in the battle for bronze .
For this he was rewarded with the silver bay leaf on December 9, 1960.
Four years later at the Olympic Games in 1964 , Mehl finished fifth with the German team. In 1966 Mehl ended his active career.
After studying in Cologne, Mehl worked as a teacher for art and sports at the Max-von-Laue-Gymnasium in Koblenz from 1961 . Until 1982 he was also a fencing trainer at Königsbacher SC Koblenz , after leaving the club after a dispute, he built up a fencing department at the Coblenzer Turngesellschaft . His most successful students were Dennis Bauer and Wiradech Kothny , who Mehl looked after until the 2000 Olympic Games .
