The Max-von-Laue-Gymnasium (MvLG) is a state high school in Koblenz . Its namesake was the physicist and Nobel Prize winner Max von Laue, who was born in Koblenz .

School history

The school emerged from the state modern-language and natural science grammar school in Koblenz , whose two modern-language-musical and mathematical-scientific branches were split up in 1960 in the Eichendorff grammar school and the Max-von-Laue grammar school.

The two high schools in Koblenz look back on their founding in 1855 as the “Royal Prussian and Municipal Trade School”, which was called “Kaiser Wilhelm Realgymnasium” from 1907 and was located on the site of today's Eichendorff High School. The school building of the Max-von-Laue-Gymnasium on the corner of Friedrich-Ebert-Ring / Südallee still has typical features of the 50s, from the grid facade to the extensive stairs to sgraffiti as wall decorations, the images of nature as well as poets, gods, Show muses and philosophers of ancient Greece. The building complex was built as a "Collège Marceau" for children of the French crew members. In 1959 the city of Koblenz acquired the Lycée, which had been vacated by the French, in order to prepare it for today's use by 1960. The teacher's residence and boarding school building of the "Collège Marceau", which border the schoolyard, was acquired by the federal government. The old sports hall has now given way to a new building.
