The Bischöfliche Cusanus-Gymnasium is a grammar school in Koblenz , which is sponsored by the Diocese of Trier . The Cusanus -Gymnasium, a former Ursuline school , is located on Hohenzollernstrasse in Koblenz-Mitte . It is named after the philosopher, theologian and mathematician Nikolaus von Kues (1401–1464).

The elongated three-storey clinker building with neo-Gothic shapes was built in 1904ff. Erected according to plans by the architect M. Keuthen from Aachen. The extension - tuff panels faced or plastered - took place in 1922/23 according to plans by the architects Huch & Grefges . Today the facades are clad in sheet steel (see list of cultural monuments in Koblenz-Südliche Vorstadt ). The chapel was redesigned according to plans by the Cologne artist Bodo Schramm and inaugurated in 2006.

  • In 1902 the Ursulines vom Calvarienberg ( Ahrweiler ) set up a branch in Koblenz and take over a private secondary school for girls.
  • In 1905 the Ursuline School moves into the building on Hohenzollernstrasse.
  • In 1922 an upper level was added.
  • In 1928 the first matriculation examination was taken.
  • In 1940 the school was closed by the National Socialists .
  • In 1945 the school reopened. The reconstruction of the destroyed buildings begins.
  • In 1960 the "Association of Friends and Patrons of the Ursuline School" e. V.
  • In 1971 the diocese of Trier took over the school. Since then, boys have also attended the Episcopal Gymnasium.
  • In 1980 the reconstruction and expansion of the Episcopal Cusanus-Gymnasium was completed.
  • In 1992 the school was given the name of Nikolaus von Kues and was called the Bischöfliches Cusanus-Gymnasium.
  • In 1999 the school was included in the "Network of ecological schools in Rhineland-Palatinate".
  • In 1994 the student exchange with the "Ben Gurion High School" in Petah Tikva begins .
  • In 2002 the alumni association was founded and the school celebrated its 100th birthday.
  • In 2005, on the occasion of World Youth Day in Cologne, the student exchange with the “Colegiul Sf. Iosif ”in Bucharest ; the school chapel is renewed based on a design by the artist Bodo Schramm .
  • In 2010 the sports hall will be extensively renovated and energetically refurbished. The foundation "Bischöfliches Cusanus-Gymnasium Koblenz" is established.
  • In 2011 the school yard will be redesigned and a new multi-purpose building will be created - the “sound room”; it opens up new perspectives, especially for music and theater.
