Georg Langenhorst

Georg Langenhorst (born January 18, 1962 in Hamm / Westphalia) is professor for didactics of Catholic religious education / religious education at the Catholic-Theological Faculty of the University of Augsburg .

Life

Georg Langenhorst studied after high school at Freiherr-vom-Stein Gymnasium Hamm Catholic theology, English, German and Hispanic studies at the universities of Trier , Würzburg , Lancaster and Stirling . In 1987 he completed his studies with the first state examination (high school teaching qualification) and Magister Artium (MA). Then he started the community service in the Catholic university community of Würzburg. After his community service, Langenhorst turned back to the university and began studying for a doctorate in Tübingen. In 1993 he received his doctorate there. theol. with the work “Job our contemporary. The literary reception of Job in the 20th century as a theological challenge ”.

Between 1994 and 1995 Langenhorst completed his legal clerkship at the Bischöfliches Cusanus-Gymnasium Koblenz, then passed his second state examination at the local study seminar and worked at the Cusanus-Gymnasium as a high school teacher until 1997. From February 1, 1997 to September 30, 2001 he was Academic Councilor for Catholic Theology / Religious Education at the Weingarten University of Education (Württemberg). In 2000 Langenhorst completed his habilitation in religious education at the Catholic-Theological Faculty of the University of Tübingen with a thesis on “Learning to console? Profile, history and practice of consolation as a diaconal teaching and learning process ”.

In 2001, a call for a C4 professorship at the University of Education Schwäbisch Gmünd was rejected and an offer for the chair for didactics of Catholic religious instruction at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg was accepted . On October 1, 2006, Langenhorst moved to the chair for didactics of Catholic religious instruction / religious education at the Catholic-Theological Faculty of the University of Augsburg, and since 2013 he has also been the dean of studies there . From 2009-2015 Langenhorst was also the spokesman for the Conference of Religious Educators at Bavarian Universities (KRBU). In 2011 Langenhorst signed the memorandum Church 2011: A necessary departure . From 2011 to 2017 he was a member of the jury for the Catholic Children's and Young People's Book Prize. Together with Ulrich Kropač from the Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt , Langenhorst is the editor of the Religious Education Contributions (RpB).

Langenhorst's research and publication focus is on the dialogue between theology and literature as well as religion in children's and youth literature. He also deals with consolation and grief research, interreligious learning and school-type-specific religious didactics. In his free time he writes crime novels that take place in a church environment.
