Erich Garhammer

Erich Garhammer (born May 14, 1951 in Ulrichsreuth, today Röhrnbach parish ) is a German Catholic theologian . As the successor to Rolf Zerfaß , he was Professor of Catholic Theology at the University of Würzburg from 2000 until his retirement in 2017 .

Life

Erich Garhammer studied Catholic theology and German at the University of Regensburg . In 1979 he was ordained a priest. He wrote his dissertation on the topic of seminar ideas and clergy education with Karl August Graf von Reisach . A pastoral-historical study of 19th century ultramontanism .

From 1991 to 2000 he was professor for pastoral theology and homiletics at the Catholic-Theological Faculty in Paderborn , from 2000 he was professor for pastoral theology and homiletics at the Catholic-theological faculty of the University of Würzburg . In 2017 he retired. In 2004 he took over the editing of the journal Lebendige Seelsorge , and is co-editor of the series Studies on theology and practice of pastoral care .

His great passion is building bridges from theology to literature and poetry. The events organized by him include writers such as Arnold Stadler , Reiner Kunze , Petra Morsbach , Andreas Maier , Sibylle Lewitscharoff , Arno Geiger , Navid Kermani , Ralf Rothmann and Hanns-Josef Ortheil , most recently at the “LIT.fest münchen 2015”, which is held in Within the framework of the art project Joy and Hope, Mourning and Fear of the German Bishops' Conference, attention was given.

Garhammer is a signatory of the memorandum “ Church 2011: A Necessary Awakening ”.

Honors

On the occasion of his 65th birthday, the editors and editors of the Living Pastoral Care dedicated No. 2/2016 entitled Resonance to him .

In 2019 he was awarded the preaching prize for his life's work.
