Lebendige Seelsorge (Subtitle: Journal for Practical Theological Action ) is a journal published by Echter Verlag ( Würzburg ) that deals with pastoral care on the basis of Catholic theology.

It is aimed at pastoral workers in church professions as well as volunteers and tries to build a bridge between theological science and practical church work. It appears six times a year.

Foundation and history

Under the motto “We can have the courage to give high-profile witness” , Prelate Alfons Fischer, together with Alfred Weitmann and Josef Schulze, created a forum in 1950 with the magazine “Lebendige Seelsorge” in which both ecclesiastical and social issues found their place.

Leaflet Living Catechesis

From 1979 to 2003 the Living Catechesis ( ISSN  0171-4171 , short title according to DIN 1502: LebKat ) was published every six months as a supplement to the Living Pastoral Care . Afterwards, relevant topics were integrated into the journal Lebendige Seelsorge .

Editing and editing

Erich Garhammer (former professor for pastoral theology at the Catholic-Theological Faculty of the University of Würzburg ) has been editor of the magazine since 2004 . The editor from 2004 to 2005 was Christine Hober, the editor from 2006 to 2007 was Stefan Weigand. The editor was Astrid Schilling from 2008 to 2015 and Elisabeth Hasch from 2016 to 2019. The editor since January 2020 has been Andreas Feige, who works at the Chair of Pastoral Theology at the University of Freiburg. Members of the editorial board are Matthias Sellmann (Chair for Pastoral Theology, Bochum), Bernhard Spielberg (Chair for Pastoral Theology, Freiburg), Ute Leimgruber (Chair for Pastoral Theology, Regensburg), Christian Bauer (Chair for Pastoral Theology, Innsbruck) and Hildegard Wustmans (Head of Pastoral Affairs Services, Diocese of Limburg ).
