Gerd-Peter Münden (* 1966 ) is a German church musician .

Life

Münden grew up in Bad Kreuznach as the son of a pastor of the kreuznacher diakonie foundation , together with his brother Johannes Münden, who later became a pastor and Protestant religion teacher. He received his first lessons in organ playing from Dieter Wellmann . He studied at the University of Church Music in Heidelberg and passed his A-exam there.

In Stromberg he had his first part-time church musician position, where he first came into contact with the poet Brigitte Antes as a children's choir director . From 1992 to 1999 he worked as a cantor at St. Marien in Minden , where he took over the Protestant singing school. After the publication of his standard work Children's Choir Conducting in 1989, Münden advanced to become a specialist in singing with children. Münden has been a lecturer in the subject at various universities since 1995.

In 1999 he moved to the Braunschweig Cathedral as cathedral choirmaster . With the Braunschweiger Domsingschule , Münden runs the largest institution for Protestant church music in Germany. In 2011, 550 children and 250 adults made music in the cathedral singing school. His area of ​​work includes playing the organ as a cathedral organist, conducting several annual choir and orchestral concerts with the cathedral choir, orchestral work with the cathedral symphony orchestra (since 2011 in cooperation with Joachim Heimbrock, concertmaster of the Braunschweig State Orchestra ) and work with the youth choir (together with cantor Elke Lindemann) and the Kurrenden (concert choir of the children's branch of the cathedral singing school). He is also responsible for the content-related work of the other cantors and other leaders of groups at the Domsingschule. Gerd-Peter Münden is also active as a composer of sacred music as well as organ and instrumental music. With the lyricist Eugen Eckert , Münden created many new songs for community singing.

In 2003 Gerd-Peter Münden came up with the idea of ​​singing together in a large hall (a “song festival”) to inspire children who have hardly sung so far. After a four-year planning phase, the project “ Great! We sing ”. Between 2007 and 2020, 780,000 children and teachers took part in the campaign.
