The Fuhrländer AG was a manufacturer of wind turbines from the Westerwald with headquarters and production in Liebenscheid . Another location of the company was at the original location in Waigandshain . The independent company produced wind turbines in various output classes up to 2.5 megawatts and implemented wind parks around the world . To monitor the operation of wind turbines ( condition monitoring ), Fuhrländer maintained a manufacturer-independent service system that used communication technology to inform the responsible technician in the event of faults in the system (e.g. by SMS ) and offered internet-based diagnostic and documentation options for operating and performance data.

The Fuhrländer AG company was dissolved in December 2012 due to bankruptcy. Fuhrländer AG's business operations were finally terminated in summer 2013. Around a third of the workforce has been taken over by a new company called FWT Trade . The rest of the employees have jobs etc. a. found at seebaWind and Windpark Service.

history

The company was founded in 1960 as a metal processing company and entered the wind industry in the 1980s by taking over a well-known manufacturer. The company gained expertise in this sector through maintenance work on wind turbines. Own systems up to 250 kW followed quickly. In 1997 Fuhrländer AG entered the megawatt class.

A 1.5 MW class was introduced in Portugal and Japan, later a 60 Hz variant with a variable-speed system was implemented.

In China, Fuhrländer has set up its own production facility to further develop the market and has granted licenses to well-known technology companies.

Since 2000, the Japanese technology export and import company NEIC Japan, based in Tokyo (founded by the former DENSEI partner NEIC Import-Export ), has been responsible for the export of Fuhrländer wind power plants in Asia, which had become independent from Densei Lambda (now TDK Lambda) GmbH in Düsseldorf ), which already generates a total of 30 MW output with the exported Fuhrländer wind power plants in Japan.

From 2007, a new factory site was built in the commercial area at Siegerland Airport , which was put into operation the following year. A factory hall with a production capacity of 200 wind turbines per year was built next to the company headquarters.

At the end of 2011, Fuhrländer took over the majority of the engineering office W2E Wind to Energy GmbH, which specializes in the development of wind turbines . Both companies had previously cooperated with each other.

In August 2012 it became known that Wind Größe GmbH , which is owned by two Ukrainian investors, had taken over Joachim Fuhrländer's shares and was now the majority shareholder with around 80 percent of the shares. It was originally reported that the Russian nuclear energy company Rosatom had taken over Fuhrländer, but this was denied.

On September 20, 2012, Fuhrländer filed for bankruptcy. The reason given for the bankruptcy was "customer-side project postponements", which would have led to delays in these project payments. The company was dissolved on December 17, 2012 due to the opening of insolvency proceedings .

On February 6, 2013 it was announced that Fuhrländer had released almost all of the remaining employees and that the 85 trainees had to look for a new training position. The insolvency administrator is looking for an investor based on these sources, but is also considering stopping production in Liebenscheid. All other locations would be examined.

On February 28, 2013 it was announced that the sales plans had failed. Accordingly, Fuhrländer is liquidated, but the service and maintenance department with around 40 employees remains, which is taken over by an investor (see below). However, this contract does not contain any system licenses; these remain with the design office W2E, in which Fuhrländer is also involved.

Product range

FL 1000 in Hessen

Fuhrländer manufactured wind turbines with up to 2.5 MW and hub heights of up to 160 m, with which inland and wooded areas should be developed even better for wind energy. These turbines of the type FL 2500, which have a conventional design with gearbox, were available with rotor diameters of 90 m, 100 m and 104 m. In December 2012, the world's tallest wind turbines to date were built in the Nowy Tomyśl wind farm at the Paproć site near the small Polish town of Nowy Tomyśl. Like the one in Laasow, the two turbines of the type FL 2500 stand on a 160 m high steel lattice tower, but have a rotor diameter of 100 m and thus a total height of 210 m. Thus, the wind turbine Laasow that has m and a rotor diameter of 90, exceeded the total height by 5 yards. At the beginning of 2014, the prototype of the Vestas V164-8.0 offshore turbine replaced it as the record holder.

In the megawatt class, the FL 1500 with a rotor diameter of 70 m or 77 m and 1.5 MW nominal output as well as the FL MD 70/77 with the same output characteristics were available. In addition, the FL 1250 is also offered with a rotor diameter of 62 m and a nominal output of 1300 kW. The FL 1500 is identical to the Protec MD. This 1.5 MW class system originally developed by "pro + pro Energiesysteme" (a subsidiary of aerodyn Energiesysteme and Denker & Wulf) was granted as a license and built by various manufacturers: Nordex , REpower , Südwind, Jacobs Energie, Dong Fang .

In addition, the FL 600 was a smaller system with a rotor diameter of 50 m and a nominal output of 600 kW.

Furthermore, a 3 MW system for moderate wind speeds (IEC IIa) with the designation FL 3000 was under development (designed by W2E). This system has a 120 m rotor, which results in a rotor area of 11,390 m², the ratio of rotor area to nominal power is consequently around 3.8 m² per kW. The drive train, which was developed by the transmission manufacturer Winergy under the brand name HybridDrive , consists of a two-stage planetary gear and a medium-speed permanent magnet generator with water cooling, which feeds the electricity into the grid via full converters, a clutch and a spur gear stage, as is the case with conventional ones Transmission concepts are widespread, it was dispensed with. This drive train is being used for the first time in the FL 3000 and, in addition to reducing weight and increasing efficiency compared to conventional drive trains, due to the compact design, it should also result in less space in the nacelle. The switch-on speed of the FL 3000 is 3 m / s, nominal power is reached at approx. 13 m / s, the switch-off speed is 25 m / s. The prototype of this system, which is offered on towers from 90 m to 140 m, was originally supposed to be installed in 2012, but this could not be realized due to the insolvency of Fuhrländer. In autumn 2013 the prototype of the 3 MW system was erected in Kankel near Rostock.

Others

  • In the state of Cearà in Brazil, Fuhrländer AG planned to build another production plant, a training workshop and a school.
  • The construction of a 210-meter-high Fuhrländer FL-2500 (100-meter rotor on a 160-meter tower) was planned in the energy landscape of Morbach , but this construction, although approved under building law, was due to discrepancies between the operating company, which is also planning, and the manufacturing company has not set up at this location.
