history

The place was first mentioned in 1346 as Wiganshen . The place has been part of the parish Emmerichenhain since the Middle Ages and with this the rulership of the Westerwald . An older chapel in Waigandshain is described as ruinous in 1570. In 1749 the community established a school foundation and in 1752 had a half-timbered house built as a chapel and school. A school house had already been bought before.

A stately pond in the district was first mentioned in 1576 and had existed for a long time at that time. Shortly after 1828 it fell permanently dry.

From the year 1534 seven Vogtleute and 5 Nassau-Beilsteiner owners are named as residents of Waigandshain. In 1577 there were twelve compulsory houses. In 1607 there were seven men in the village. By 1637 the population had decreased to three men and a widow, probably because of the Thirty Years War. In 1643 there were again 21 inhabitants, in 1711 15 families. 139 inhabitants are named for 1741 and 203 in 1807.
