Mudenbach is a municipality in the Westerwaldkreis in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Hachenburg community .

Geographical location

Mudenbach lies at 286  m above sea level. NHN in the northern part of the Westerwald on the Wied . The community is predominantly structured agriculturally. The districts of Farrenau and Hanwerth belong to Mudenbach.

The district borders in the west on Borod and Ingelbach ( district of Altenkirchen ), in the north on Kroppach and Marzhausen , in the east on Hattert and in the south near the district Hanwerth on Wahlrod .

history

The place was first mentioned in a document in 1270. Slate mining in the district is recorded for 1772, a first powder mill for 1794 and a second powder mill in 1849 . Powder production was stopped in 1892 and 1898. The Farrenau estate was built in place of one of these mills.

Mudenbach belonged to the parish of Kroppach and sovereign to the county of Sayn . The inhabitants became Lutheran after the introduction of the Reformation in County Sayn and later reformed. After the division of the County of Sayn in the 17th century, Mudenbach belonged to the County of Sayn-Hachenburg . In 1799 the county came to the princes of Nassau-Weilburg by inheritance . In connection with the formation of the Rhine Confederation , the region and with it Mudenbach came to the newly established Duchy of Nassau in 1806 . Under the Nassau administration, Mudenbach was assigned to the Hachenburg office. After the annexation of the Duchy of Nassau, the place came to the Kingdom of Prussia in 1866 and from 1868 belonged to the province of Hessen-Nassau and the Oberwesterwaldkreis . Mudenbach has been part of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate since 1946 .

Hanwerth

The neighboring town of Hanwerth was incorporated into Mudenbach in 1818. Hanwerth is first mentioned in 1358. Before 1818 the place belonged to Oberhattert . In 1672 an oil mill was built in the village, and in 1687 an iron smelter with hammer mill. In 1834 a bone mill replaced the hammer, which was operated as a grinding mill from 1863. In addition, an oil mill was built in 1866, but it was already in the Wahlrod district. Three houses are mentioned in Hanwerth for 1576, three fireplaces for 1624, five men for 1714 and three houses for 1793.

The municipal council in Mudenbach consists of twelve council members, who were elected by a majority vote in the local elections on May 26, 2019 , and the honorary local mayor as chairman.

Christa Hülpüsch became local mayor of Mudenbach in July 2014. In the direct election on May 26, 2019, she was confirmed in her office for a further five years with 81.68% of the votes.

Mudenbach is connected to the regional transport network via Landesstraße 265 to Bundesstraße 8 . The federal road connects the place with the middle centers Hachenburg and Altenkirchen . The autobahn connections of the A 3 Ransbach-Baumbach and Dierdorf can be reached via the B 8 / B 413 . The Hennef junction of the A 560 can be reached directly via the B 8. The closest ICE stop is Montabaur station on the Cologne – Rhein / Main high-speed line .
