Neuhäusel is a municipality in the Westerwaldkreis in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Montabaur community .

Geographical location

Neuhäusel is located between Montabaur and Koblenz in the area of ​​the Augst communities. In terms of its natural surroundings, Neuhäusel is part of the Lower West Forest in the Nassau Nature Park . Neighboring communities are Simmern in the west, Kadenbach in the east and Eitelborn in the southeast .

history

Musbach, first mentioned in 1198 as the predecessor settlement of Neuhäusel, was a small village that was close to today's local community. It was followed by Neuspay, mentioned for the last time in 1537, and by the Wirt at Creutz, mentioned in 1669 . The name Neuhäusel appears for the first time in 1675.

The current municipality of Neuhäusel has belonged to the Electorate of Trier since the Middle Ages . As a result of the Reichsdeputation Hauptschluss , the areas on the right bank of the Rhine of the Electorate of Trier, including Neuhäusel, fell to the Principality of Nassau-Weilburg . From 1806 the place belonged to the Duchy of Nassau and was administered by the Office of Montabaur . From 1815 Neuhäusel was a customs post on the Nassau border with Prussia . In 1866 the area became part of Prussia, Neuhäusel had belonged to the then newly formed Prussian Unterwesterwaldkreis in the province of Hesse-Nassau since 1867 . Neuhäusel has belonged to the state of Rhineland-Palatinate since 1946 .

Due to its location on the important traffic connection between the Rhine and the Westerwald , Neuhäusel has developed over the centuries from a rest station for carters to a community with a central character.
