Ruppach-Goldhausen is a municipality in the Westerwaldkreis in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Montabaur community .

Geographical location

The community is located in the Westerwald northeast of Montabaur on the edge of the Nassau Nature Park . The Ahrbach flows through the village . The place is located on the slope of the 356 meter high Rupberg and on the Goldhäuser Berg, also called Goldkäppchen in old maps.

history

The time of origin of the settlements of Ruppach and Goldhausen is estimated at 1100 AD. As early as 1097, the Hubengericht Potenhain-Ruppach, which is owned by the Lords of Merenburg, ruled. In the time after about 1100 the family tribe of the forest messengers was in the possession of the tithe from Ruppach.

Origin of the name: In documents of the 13th century one can read about the "nobles of Gulthusen", first in 1289, and in 1362 "Junker von Robach" is mentioned for the first time. The places have had their current name since the Thirty Years' War .

In 1525 there were three farms in Goldhausen. One farm belonged to the Montabaur hospital, the other two farms were taxable to the priest of Meudt . At the same time there were also three farms in Ruppach. One part (“this side of the brook”) was assigned to the manor Hundsangen , the other (“beyond the brook”) to the manor Meudt. During this time, the population living on agriculture suffered from high taxes that had to be paid to the landlords and the Isenburg family. With the end of serfdom in 1783, the population could breathe a sigh of relief.

When the Archbishop of Trier took over the protection of the population in 1564, there were twelve families in Goldhausen who owned 19 horses. Information on horse keeping and breeding can also be found later in directories. From 1802 to 1866 the rulership of the places lay with the Duke of Nassau, who was replaced by Prussia . Since 1900, the places gradually grew together. Similarities developed in the areas of church, school and club life, which was a prerequisite for the formation of the Ruppach-Goldhausen community on June 7, 1969.

The time up to their own common parish lasted a long time: Originally Goldhausen and part of Ruppach belonged to the parish of Meudt, Ruppach "left the brook" to the parish of Hundsangen. "Links der Bach" was transferred to the newly founded Berod parish in 1762, before this part was also assigned to Meudt in 1790. Until 1902, the faithful attended the service in Meudt, five kilometers away. After the consecration of the newly built church in Ruppach on July 31, 1905, this long journey was omitted. In 1922 the two parishes agreed to only celebrate Sunday and public holiday services in the larger Ruppach church. In 1926, after the Ruppach-Boden parish vicariate was founded, the first pastor moved into the new rectory. In 1939 the Ruppach-Goldhausen parish was formed.

coat of arms

Coat of arms of Ruppach-Goldhausen
Justification for the coat of arms: The upper part of the coat of arms represents the union of the coats of arms of the Lords of Reifenberg and the nobles of Nassau-Spurkenburg. The former court seal of Ruppach from 1596 served as a template for the design of the coat of arms. The step-shaped lower part of the coat of arms symbolizes the degradation of clay and the wave ledge the Ahrbach.

Clay pits

There are several clay mining companies around the town of Ruppach-Goldhausen. At the beginning of the clay mining, the clay was extracted in the open pit with a hoe and spade. The clay was later extracted underground through shafts. Such a headframe is still standing today, which is called the future . Today the clay is extracted again in the opencast mine.

education

After the introduction of compulsory schooling in 1817, Ruppach, Goldhausen and Langwiesen formed a school association. School took place in a rented room in Ruppach. After 1867, the children visited the schoolhouse (Elektro-Linden) that is still available today opposite the Ruppach church. Due to the increased number of children, Goldhausen built his own school in 1897. This building still stands today. It is located on the main street right next to the Goldhäuser Chapel. In 1960, in the name of a school reform, the two communities were given a joint school. Today elementary school students from Ruppach-Goldhausen, Heiligenroth and Boden attend the elementary school on the Ahrbach . There is also a local kindergarten for the little ones.
