Borod is a municipality in the Westerwaldkreis in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Hachenburg community .

Geographical location

On the western border of the Hachenburg association, in the north-western part of the Westerwaldkreis, lies the borod community in a side valley of the Wied . The village extends from the so-called bone mill on the Wied in a south-westerly direction. The Birkenhof also belongs to the community as a further living space.

The community has an area of ​​316 hectares, 101 hectares of which are forest and 171 hectares are used for agriculture, the remaining area is the built-up area. Borod emerged as a clearing settlement between the 9th and 14th centuries, the name of which is presumably derived from Boran , who could have directed the clearing. The first documentary mention comes from the year 1454/1465 as Burnroede . Over the centuries, the village name was changed to 1457 in Borrenteroide to 1476 in Borenrode to 1558 in Boerrode to 1569 in Borrod to 1597 in Borod and around 1,668 in Bohret before the current name finally prevailed.
