Steinen (dialect: Stääne ) is a municipality in the Westerwaldkreis in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the community of Selters (Westerwald) .

geography

Steinen is 5 km from Herschbach and 7 km from Selters (Westerwald) on the Westerwald lake district . The Kautenmühle and Schönerlen residential areas also belong to the community. history

The municipality of Steinen used to consist of three districts: Steinen, Straßen and Stahlhofen. Streets (Oberdorf) and Steinen (Unterdorf) have grown together structurally today. The hamlet of Stahlhofen had six houses close to the Schonlen estate. The last house in Stahlhofen was laid down in 1897 and rebuilt in streets.

The three cities were among the country wonderfully until the early 19th century to the county Wied-Neuwied and together with the parish Rückeroth to wiedischen Office Grenzhausen . To Stahlhofen belonged five mills and the farms Adelsheim, Beller, Boosischer Hof, Herschbacher Kellereihof, Niesnerischer Hof, Seeburg, Schönerlen and Dehriss.

In connection with the formation of the Napoleonic Rhine Confederation , the entire County of Wied, and with it the current municipality of Steinen, became part of the Duchy of Nassau in 1806 . Under the Nassau administration, the community was assigned to the office of Selters . After the so-called German War , the area came under the Kingdom of Prussia in 1866 , and the municipality of Steinen was assigned to the Unterwesterwaldkreis in Hessen-Nassau .
