Sessenbach is a municipality in the Westerwaldkreis in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Ransbach-Baumbach community .
geography
The community is located in the Westerwald in Kannenbäckerland . The Sessenbach, which belongs to the catchment area of the Saynbach and Rhine rivers, flows near the village . The Sayntalhof residential area also belongs to the community.
history
Urn finds are made after 1200 - 800 BC. dated. A Celtic residential pit settlement (500 BC) could be proven on the basis of excavations . The village was first mentioned in a document in 1220 with Miles (knight) Karolus "advocatus" de (from) Sinßinbach. 1273 with Frederich v. Synsinbach son of the knight Carl. In 1321 Sessenbach appears "uf the court of Sinsenbach" in the possession of Nieder-Isenburg and comes as heir to the old Isenburg-Grenzau line. The "Wollenschläger Höfchen" (1590) and the "large Isenburger Hof" (1630) in Sessenbach were Isenburg until 1664 , afterwards they were Kurtrier . The Kleiner Hof appears in 1723. On a tax list from 1753, three courtyards appear at the same time. The Saynhof, 1331 Hof “Uf der Seijne”, ended after an eventful fate, in 1723 it was owned by the Oberwerth monastery and was last owned by the Sessenbach family Werz. Isenburg-Grenzau owned shares in the tithe of Sessenbach around 1600. From 1602 to 1810, potters were based in Sessenbach. For this period up to 1920 "Holland drivers" (traveling dealers) are documented. Today Sessenbach has about 550 inhabitants who live in 160 houses, with a total of 230 apartments on an area of 2.8 km². In the 20th century, the main line of business for the citizens of Sessenbach was dominated by agriculture and the ceramics industry.
Since 1972 the local community Sessenbach belongs to the association community Ransbach-Baumbach.

The council in Sessenbach consists of twelve council members, who in the local elections on May 26, 2019 in a majority vote were elected, and the honorary mayor as chairman. In the period from 2014 to 2019, the municipality council had only eight council members.
