Enspel is a municipality in the Westerwaldkreis in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the community of Westerburg .
Geographical location
Enspel is located 10 km northwest of Westerburg , on a hill on the western slope of the Stöffel , a basalt mountain . The structure of the place is characterized by the nearby basalt quarries, in which basalt rock has been mined since around 1900. The mighty fractures and rock outcrops in the Stöffel are worth seeing .
history
In 1261 Enspels was first mentioned as Encenmulen . The place, which originally belonged to the County of Diez , fell to the House of Nassau-Dillenburg through inheritance in 1386 . After the establishment of the Rhine Confederation in 1806, Enspel was added to the newly founded Duchy of Nassau . After the German War in 1866, Nassau became part of Prussia . The place belonged to the parish and court of Rotenhain from the second half of the 15th century at the latest . Enspel was detached from the parish in 1563 in the course of the Reformation and parish changed to Marienberg . In the 20th century, the Stöffel mouse was found in the Enspel fossil site.

- Molhusen
Molhusen was located around 500 meters north-northwest of Enspel. It is first mentioned in 1511 and must have fallen desolate before 1525 .

Municipal council
The council in Enspel consists of six council members, who in the local elections on May 26, 2019 in a majority vote were elected, and the honorary mayor as chairman. Until 2009, the council had eight council members.

The lion is the heraldic animal of the House of Nassau , gold and blue are the colors of the Counts of Nassau. Mallets and iron (mining symbol) as well as paving stones represent the basalt mining as the economic basis of the place. The wavy line symbolizes the horns .

- The place Enspel has a train stop on the railway line Oberwesterwaldbahn ( Limburg an der Lahn - Diez Ost - Westerburg - Nistertal / Bad Marienberg - Hachenburg - Altenkirchen (Westerwald) - Au (Sieg) - Betzdorf - Siegen - Kreuztal ), which is served by the trains the line RB 90 of the Hessische Landesbahn is served daily every hour according to the Rhineland-Palatinate cycle .
