history
Molsberg was first mentioned in a document in 1116 . From that time until the second half of the 14th century, the lords of Molsberg lived there in their castle on the northern slope of the Eichberg ( 407.5 m above sea level ). A model of the castle can still be seen in Molsberg Castle today. Afterwards the castle became the property of the Trier electors, who pledged the castle more often. The noble von Walderdorff family has lived in Molsberg since 1657, initially in the castle. Under Elector and Archbishop Johann Philipp von Walderdorff , the castle was completely demolished after 1760 and today's castle was built, although only part of it was built due to the elector's death in 1768.
