Maroth (dialect: Moed ) is a municipality in the Westerwaldkreis in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the community of Selters (Westerwald) .

Geographical location

Maroth is six kilometers from Herschbach and seven kilometers from Selters (Westerwald) am Grenzbach below the Waldsee.

history

Maroth was first mentioned in a document in 1344. Maroth was split in two. The two local rings that still exist today bear witness to the division of Maroth, earlier than Malre, Maillrode, Mairot and Moort, and Hausen, earlier than Huissen, Isenburgshausen and Trierischhausen . The 350 hectare district also consists of three parts. Areas of the communities Marienhausen and Dierdorf separate two exclaves from the main district of Maroth.
