history

It probably originated as a clearing village in the 10th century. In 1268 Heuzert was first mentioned in a document as Hutcenrothe . What is remarkable for Heuzeroth is the number of former mills. A mill is mentioned for the first time in 1346, which existed at least until the end of the 16th century and was a ban mill for several neighboring towns. In the 19th century, two oil and bone mills were put into operation in addition to the grinding mill. In 1819 a brickworks was mentioned on the boundary between Heuzert and Astert . The Marienstatt Abbey in Heuzert also had a courtyard. In 1579 Heuzert had five houses and in 1793 ten houses.

The village of Heuzert belonged to the parish of Kroppach and sovereign to the county of Sayn . The inhabitants became Lutheran after the introduction of the Reformation in County Sayn and later reformed. After the county of Sayn was divided in the 17th century, Heuzert belonged to the County of Sayn-Hachenburg . In 1799 the county came to the princes of Nassau-Weilburg by inheritance . In connection with the formation of the Rhine Confederation , the region and with it Heuzert came to the newly established Duchy of Nassau in 1806 . Under the Nassau administration, Heuzert was assigned to the Hachenburg office.

After the annexation of the Duchy of Nassau, the place came to the Kingdom of Prussia in 1866 and from 1868 belonged to the province of Hessen-Nassau and the Oberwesterwaldkreis . Heuzert has been part of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate since 1946 .

Culture and sights

Sights include some preserved farmhouses from the 18th century and the Marienstätter Hof . It is located in the northern part of the village and was first mentioned in 1500. The farm belonging to the Marienstatt Abbey was given to various tenants until 1713. In 1713 it was sold to the leaseholder of the Heuzerter mill, Müller Röder, who rebuilt it in 1725. The then Müller Leonhardt bought it in the 19th century.

The Heuzerter Mühle is located on the northern outskirts on the Great Nister; this mill was first mentioned in 1346. Count Johann von Sayn and his wife donated the mill to the Marienstatt Abbey, which leased the mill on a temporary basis; here the villages in the vicinity were meal guests . After the secularization of the Marienstatt Abbey, it became the property of the Duchy of Nassau; later the mill was sold to private. Today it generates electricity.

500 m northeast of the village is an old quarry stone bridge from the 19th century. It also served as the “Kirchweg” of the “Oberbächer” (Limbach, Streithausen , Atzelgift and Luckenbach ) and as a farm road to Heimborn, Lützelau and Mörsbach. 250 m southeast of the village was the former Haßloch mill, a fulling mill , of which today only a moat and conspicuous soil forms testify. The field name “In der Fullmühle” also reminds of the location.
