Kammerforst im Kannenbäckerland is a municipality in the Westerwaldkreis in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Höhr-Grenzhausen community .

Geographical location

Kammerforst is located about 13 kilometers northeast of Koblenz on the edge of the Nassau Nature Park . The community is located on the Masselbach .

history

The community was founded around 1680. It was founded by Walloon guest workers from the ironworks in Hundsdorf . Presumably they were settled in the chamber forest because this belonged to the castle freedom of Grenzau Castle . It was an Electorate of Trier territory, which enabled the Walloons to settle in Catholic territory. The name of the settlement refers to the location within the Reichswald Spurkenberg, in which the archbishops of Trier owned some forest districts administered by their court chamber. From 1723 onwards, based on native family names in the village, a beginning mixing with the indigenous population can be ascertained; by 1813, Walloon names are no longer detectable.

The place seems to have been closely connected to Grenzau . In 1723 both places are mentioned as a common municipality, in 1813 a common mayor is mentioned. In 1775, however, Kammerforst had its own mayor. In 1936, in contrast to Grenzau, the village was not incorporated into Höhr-Grenzhausen.

The oldest record of the population dates back to 1713 and mentions 17 marriages and one widow. In 1787 83 inhabitants are mentioned, in 1813 26 families, 21 of them with migrating cattle, in 1823 142 and in 1826 147 inhabitants.
