history

Berod was first mentioned in 1292 as Berrinrode in a necrology of the Dietkirchen monastery . The word ending -rode refers to the medieval clearing of forests to gain arable and pasture land between 800 and 1200. The first chapel in Berod must have been built between 1150 and 1200. The west tower of today's church and parts of today's sacristy were already part of this building. The chapel and the place belonged to the parish Hundsangen in the Middle Ages . In 1729 the chapel was enlarged and given a baroque interior. In 1900 the church was rebuilt again and was given a north-south direction while retaining the former baroque choir room. The current transept with the former baroque main altar (in the current side choir) corresponds to the original orientation of the chapel in an easterly direction.

In 1762 Berod was raised to a parish by the Archbishop of Trier, Johann Philipp von Walderdorff, together with Wallmerod and part of Ruppach . In 1789 the part of Ruppach was replaced by Zehnhausen . In 1963 Wallmerod became a separate parish, but remained within the Berod parish. In 1976 Molsberg was added to the parish Wallmerod and thus to the parish of Berod. On January 1, 2016, the parish of St. Agidius Berod was merged into the newly founded large parish of St. Laurentius Nentershausen after 254 years of existence.
