history

The community of Wallmerod was newly formed on the basis of the twelfth state law on administrative simplification in the state of Rhineland-Palatinate from March 1, 1972 on April 22, 1972 from 15 local communities of the Oberwesterwaldkreis and five local communities of the Unterwesterwaldkreis and thus initially worked in the area of two districts, which only changed when the Westerwaldkreis was rebuilt in 1974 . Wallmerod was chosen as the administrative seat because it already had a tradition as the seat of a local court .

In 1970, the municipality of Hundsangen wanted to move to the neighboring state of Hesse due to the strong ties in the Limburg - Hadamar area , but this failed in January 1972 because Rhineland-Palatinate did not issue the relevant permit , as it was feared that it would attract other areas.

The municipalities of Elbingen and Moravia (Westerwald) , which formed the municipality of Elbingen-Moravia when the Verbandsgemeinde Wallmerod was formed, became independent municipalities again on January 1, 1994. Both communities remained in the Verbandsgemeinde.
