Steinefrenz is a municipality in the Westerwaldkreis in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Wallmerod Association .

Geographical location

The community is located in the Westerwald between Montabaur and Limburg an der Lahn . The Eisenbach flows through the village . The living spaces Am Bahnhof Steinefrenz, Hof Kölsberg, Marienhof, Neumühle and Sonnenhof also belong to Steinefrenz.

history

Steinefrenz was first mentioned in a document in 959 as Brencede . The place belonged to the Electorate of Trier until 1803 and was assigned to the office of Montabaur . Steinefrenz belonged to the Hundsangen parish and in 1786 had 203 inhabitants.

After the dissolution of the electorate and the Reichsdeputationshauptschluss of 1803, the previous electoral office of Montabaur, thus also Steinefrenz, was assigned to the principality of Nassau-Weilburg and after the establishment of the Rhine Confederation (1806) belonged to the Duchy of Nassau . During the Naussau government, Steinefrenz belonged to the Meudt office in the Ehrenbreitstein administrative district , and later to the Wallmerod office . From 1866 to 1945, Steinefrenz belonged to the Prussian province of Hessen-Nassau and was part of the Unterwesterwaldkreis .

Municipal council

The council in Steinefrenz consists of twelve council members, who in the local elections on May 26, 2019 in a majority vote were elected, and the honorary mayor as chairman.

Michael Hannappel became the local mayor of Steinefrenz on July 14, 2014. In the direct election on May 26, 2019, he was confirmed in office for a further five years with 93.56% of the votes.

Hannappels predecessor Klaus-Dieter Kühner held the office from 1994 to 2014.

The coat of arms was designed by Manfred Limbach and approved by the Koblenz district government on March 23, 1988 .

Justification for the coat of arms: The blue wavy strip in the main shield symbolizes the Eisenbach, the four waves the formerly four mills, the colors blue and gold indicate that it was part of Nassau ; the red cross is taken from the Kurtrier coat of arms; the golden ax represents the attribute of the patron saint of the community, St. Matthias represents.
