coat of arms

Girkenroth coat of arms
Blazon : “Split of gold and silver by a curved green tip, inside a golden ear; three blue sloping beams on the left, three black basalt columns on the right. "
Justification of the coat of arms: The three blue bars on a golden background show the coat of arms of the noble von Ottenstein family, who had their ancestral seat, which had already become desolate in the 14th century, within today's Girkenroth district. A field name still indicates this seat today. The von Ottenstein owned the village itself in the late Middle Ages and early modern times.

The basic color green indicates the forest areas surrounding the village and the pasture management, which is important here up to our days (community cattle herd until the 1960s). Agriculture as the most important source of nutrition up until the 20th century is also symbolized by the golden ear. The three basalt columns on a silver background are supposed to symbolize the basalt massif Watzenhahn, at the foot of which lies the village of Girkenroth. In our century, quarrying in the local quarry became an important source of income for the residents.
