The Au (Sieg) train station is the train station in the village of Au (Sieg) , a district of Windeck in North Rhine-Westphalia . It is  assigned to station category 3 and, despite the small number of inhabitants, has an important function in the region as a separation station . Especially for commuters from the Altenkirchen district , the Neuwied district and the Westerwald district , it represents an important connection to Siegen , Cologne , Bonn , Düsseldorf and Aachen .

history

The station was opened on August 1, 1860 as part of the Deutz-Gießener Bahn of the Cöln-Mindener Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft . On May 1, 1887, the Oberwesterwaldbahn went into operation to Altenkirchen , where there was a connection to Engers . Since June 2, 1991, the station has been the terminus of Cologne's S-Bahn line S12 . As a result, Au became a railway junction with extensive track systems.

Since the modernization of the railway systems, which was completed at the end of 2013, the Au (Sieg) station has had six platform tracks in regular operation.

Transport links

The Au (Sieg) train station has a park-and-ride and a bike-and-ride facility. There used to be a train station restaurant in the train station . There is a travel center in the train station operated by Westerwaldbahn GmbH (WEBA). The neighboring villages of Hamm an der Sieg and Fürthen and the banks of the Sieg are within walking distance. However, the Au station mainly serves as a transfer station.

Due to the location of the station in the municipality of Windeck in the Rhein-Sieg district , it is in the network area of the Rhein-Sieg transport association . The tariff of the Verkehrsverbund Rhein-Mosel also applies as a transitional tariff for journeys with a start / destination station in the VRM area, which also includes the Altenkirchen district.

Until the 2014/2015 timetable change in December 2014, Au (Sieg) station was the terminus of two regional train lines . The RB 90 (previously RB 28, Oberwesterwaldbahn) from Limburg an der Lahn  - Diez Ost - Westerburg  - Hachenburg  - Altenkirchen ended at Au (Sieg) station. The RB 95 (Sieg-Dill-Bahn) ran from Dillenburg via Siegen and Betzdorf (Sieg) to Au (Sieg). With the 2014/2015 timetable change, these two lines were merged into one continuous line RB 90 (Westerwald-Sieg-Bahn) without having to change trains.

Up until 2004, the Dreiländerbahn transport service , which also included the RB 28 until 2004 and the RB 95 until 2013, was operated by DB Regio . In 2004 Vectus Verkehrsgesellschaft took over operations on the Oberwesterwaldbahn between Limburg (Lahn) and Au (Sieg). In 2014, after winning the tender, the Dreiländerbahn network was taken over by the Hessische Landesbahn GmbH (HLB), Dreiländerbahn division. Due to the extension of the RB 90 to Siegen , the RB 95 now only runs between Dillenburg and Siegen.

On the main route (the victory route from Cologne to Siegen) the Regional Express trains run from Aachen via Cologne and Betzdorf to Siegen (RE 9) and the S-Bahn line S 12 (from Monday to Friday also the S 19 line) from Horrem via Cologne-Ehrenfeld , which ends here.
